The Paradox Of our Time

The paradox of our time in history is that...

We have taller buildings, but shorter tempers.
Wider freeways, but narrower viewpoints.
We spend more, but have less.
We buy more, but enjoy it less.

We have bigger houses and smaller families.
More conveniences, but less time.
We have more degrees, but less sense.
More knowledge, but less JUDGMENT.
More experts, but more problems.
More medicine, but less wellness.

We drink too much, smoke too much, spend too recklessly,
laugh too little, drive too fast, get too angry too quickly,
stay up too late, get up too tired, read too little,
watch TV too much, and PRAY too seldom.

We have multiplied our possessions, but reduced our values.
We talk too much, LOVE too seldom, and hate too often.
We've learned how to make a living, but not a LIFE;
We've added years to life, not life to years.

We've been all the way to the moon and back, but have trouble crossing the street to meet the new neighbor. We've conquered outer space, but not inner space;
We've done larger things, but not BETTER things.

We've cleaned up the air, but polluted the SOUL.
We've split the atom, but not our prejudice.
We write more, but learn less;
We plan more, but accomplish less;
We've learned to rush, but not to WAIT;
We have higher incomes, but lower MORALS;
We have more food, but less appeasement;

We build more computers to hold more information to produce more copies than ever, but have less communication. We've become long on quantity, but short on quality.

These are the times of fast foods and slow digestion; tall men, and short character; steep profits, and shallow RELATIONSHIPS.

These are the times of world PEACE, but domestic warfare; more leisure,but less fun; more kinds of food, but less nutrition.

These are days of two incomes, but more divorce; of fancier houses, but broken homes.

These are days of quick trips, disposable diapers, throw away morality, one-night stands, overweight bodies, and pills that do everything from cheer, to quiet, to KILL.

It is a time when there is much in the show window and nothing in the stockroom; a time when technology can bring this letter to you, and a time when you can choose either to make a difference, or to just hit delete...

Short Story~

One day a cat dies of natural causes and goes to Heaven. There he meets the Lord himself. The Lord says to the cat, "You've lived a good life and if there is any way I can make your stay in Heaven more comfortable, please let Me know."

The cat thinks for a moment and says, "Lord, all my life I have lived with a poor family and had to sleep on a hard wooden floor." The Lord stops the cat and says, "Say no more," and a wonderful fluffy pillow appears.

A few days later six mice are killed in a tragic farming accident and go to Heaven. Again the Lord is there to greet them with the same offer. The mice answer, "All of our lives we have been chased. We have had to run from cats, dogs, and even women with brooms. Running, running, running; we're tired of running. Do you think we could have roller skates so we don't have to run anymore?" The Lord says, "Say no more," and fits each mouse with beautiful new roller skates.

About a week later the Lord stops by to see the cat and finds him in a deep sleep on the pillow. The Lord gently wakes the cat and asks him, "How are things since you arrived?"

The cat stretches and yawns and replies, "It's wonderful here! Better than I could have ever expected. And those little Meals on Wheels you've been sending by are the best!!!"

Patriotism

Last night (3oth August) was Independence's Eve, d night before "Merdeka! Merdeka!" was wailed throughout the whole dataran area, and people in UMS were doing countdowns at the sport complex. Neither me nor my room mates participated in those 'things'... Things which we considered were just a 'minor-thingy' and watching drama marathons from laptops were considered more important than celebrating Merdeka...

I went home around 9 p.m and along the highway road (di tanjung Lipat), got some gutsy bikers (riding bicycles, not motors) cycling around the dangerous road with big Malaysian and Sabah flag tucked behind their bikes. Yet, they were foreigners... *Sigh~ How can someone, someone from other countries show-off their pride waving OUR flag, sedangkan WE as PURE CITIZENS of Malaysia dont even care to put a small flag on our car, or to stand up properly when we hear Negaraku berkumandang...
*Question mark~ Maybe innocent-minded and naive people are the only ones who can appreciate this country~

When d driver beside me saw them, dat person exclaimed "PTI, buat palah macam tu, kasi stress pemandu ja mau drive, takut accident..", As if the bikers were referred as road-pesters and that patriotism act was just a waste of time.

Not many of us would do the same, to pose a 1 meter flag using just a rusty cheap bicycle along a busy highway; cuz we're busy thinking that 1 Malaysia cant be achieved: Blame the lame clown-politicians-unable to handle things fair and square; and woe to those "clustered-people" who only prefer to be one with their own species. ((Stratifying your own races, religion and language wont do much for our multicolored country)).
Be 'distributed', go and mingle with others, then you may be able to appreciate the blue-red-yellow-white piece of cloth known as OUR FLAG. Sabahans, we are MALAYSIANS, we are no longer Borneo. Play our part in realizing 1 Malaysia. We dont have to wait for the higher authority to make a change. We too, can...by first- appreciating our country. So wave your flag (if u have one)~~~ ^_^

DAMN Dam!

Ever heard of Kaiduan Dam? Read this article below; though it's an old one, yet this case is still ongoing and 11 villages might be the victim of the government's monopoly game that is so undemocratic.

Monday, 05 October 2009 10:37

STATE PKR Treasurer and Deputy Chief PKR Penampang, Sabah, Dr Roland Chia urged the government immediately to stop planning and implementing the most talk about RM2.8 billion Kaiduan Dam Project that is affected our community in Upper Moyog, Penampang.

The dam as claimed is suppose to provide supply of fresh water and generation of 37MW electricity to Kota Kinabalu at the expense of the villagers . The view of the 2,000 villagers of at least 11 villages have been repeatedly ignored and sidelined.

If the proposed dam project were to carry on , it would flood 11 villages, including their community which has been in existence for hundreds of years. They welcome and appreciated the community work by NGOs PACOS in providing micro-hydro electrical power but not big conglomerates taking over their lands.

During a visit to Kg Timbangan Laut Sugud, with Penampang PKR leaders and members, Dr Roland Chia heard the plea and cry of the people, and the villagers wants an outright rejection and also demanded the government and the elected BN MP concern, a senior party leader of a component party to protect the residents’ rights over the ancestral land.

They claimed, they voted for him is to protect their rights and their land and not to rob them of even their ancestral land. Dr Roland Chia and entourage was suppose to move on to Kg Babagon Laut and Kg Timbayasa but was hampered by very bad road conditions.

To make matters worst, there is totally poor planning and outright arrogance of the implementers of the project because the proposal to build the dam at the Ulu Papar river where there are 11 villages in its vicinity, instead of the Mandalipau river, where there are none. The two rivers are the main tributaries of the Papar river.

One of the villagers claimed that the dam, when constructed, would submerge 12 sq km of forest, houses, agricultural land and even the burial grounds of their ancestors.

"The dam is said to be three times larger than the Babagon Dam that was completed in 1997," he said, adding that in the process, the waters would submerge the ancestral lands of at least 11 villages.

The kampungs affected will be from Terian, Babagon Laut, Timpayasah, Tiku, Buayan, Pongobonon, Kionop, Timpangoh, Kalanggaan, Kaiduan and Bisuang. Of the 11 villages, three are reachable by dirt road on dry days, while the rest are only accessible by foot. This definitely does not augur well with the Prime Minister slogan, “Rakyat didahulukan dan pencapaian diutamakan’.

Friends, i urge u all to sign this petition, do surf upon it later, thanx: http://www.thepetitionsite.com/1/stop-kaiduan-dam

Stressed

Life can be so stressful at some time. When stress comes slamming and banging (Mr. Stress, why don't u just knock, eih~) on our busy door, we start to panic, perplexed, and our happy hormones start to flow unevenly. We start to shriek in silent disguise, seeking for some type of virtual aspirin that would make the stress-syndrome go...go...go... Agh, I want mine to go! Take a vacation to some remote island! Ih... I have to skip class, due to some 'poorly-disorganized' matter that force me to go back and forth from Dewan Kuliah to my dorm. Here I am, stuck inside my room with my silly bloggie named Black Cat.

(AFTER A BRIEF SILENT~)

I'm wondering, why on earth did I wrote my feelings here??!! Guess this is my aspirin, *sort of~ It cools down the uprising temperature and dwindles the stress hormone. And I never know that by typing and posting my lame and despicable complaints here would be so...um...what ah, so refreshing~ *Refreshing???? Hahahha, gilaks. No lah, just that I have no one to stab with a blunt knife and I don't have a fluffy punching bag to aim my kicks and boxes... So seriously YES, complaining and whining here 'refreshes' my conscience and help me to DOUBLE CHECK my problem and situation. After reading this, I'm nowhere near to being angry, annoyed or stressed. And that is GOOD kan, my madness is gone; and pouted lips turned into a quarter smile, kekeke...

"We are often troubled, but not crushed; sometimes in doubt, but never in despair; there are many enemies, but we are never without a friend; and though badly hurt at times, we are not destroyed..."
2 Corinthians 4:8-9

God is good, all the time.

Re-Born!

I once read a book entitle Mutiara Hidup, *language is in Indon; (somehow I can’t understand some words, haha!) that shares about LIFE itself. So I wanted to share one story which I ‘plucked out’ from the book… It goes something like this… Urm… Where to start~

There was an egg- inside was a little yellow chick waiting to get out from its shell, and the egg was lying between her mother’s legs. The mother was so fond of the nature that she tells her son (the egg lah) how beautiful her surroundings were. The conversation goes like this:

Mother: “U know, it’s so pretty here…”

Egg: “I don’t believe it.”

Mother: “Well Son, you see, God made all sorts of things out here! Example, the flowers- lily, tulips, carnations… Wow, what a joy to see all these COLOURS!”

Egg: “U r wrong mami! I don’t see anything beautiful! I see BLACK everywhere!”

Mother: “But Son, when u get out from your shell, the first things you’ll see is the beautiful bright LIGHT from the Sun, and that light shone sweetly on the flowers, grass and trees, allowing them to grow well…”

Egg: “U r wrong again-lah mami! If the sun truly exists, why am I in the DARK??! I don’t believe in such things like u said just now. There is no Sun, there is no LIGHT!”

Mother: “Why won’t u believe in all these simple things?”

Egg: “How can I believe there is light when I’m in darkness? How can I see those beautiful things when all I see is a black wall surrounding me?”

Jeng Jeng Jeng!! After a period of time (less than 2 weeks), the egg hatched and a little yellow chick came out from its shell.

Chick: “I’m no longer an egg! I’m a chick! Soon I’ll be a chicken like you Mami!”

After saying these, he opened his eyes and he immediately saw all those beautiful things his mother once said when he was still an egg. And he was amazed!! Seriously, he flapped his wings hard and he jumped so high until he’s at the same level with the donkey! (Can a chicken do that?? Haha, bidaa~) Now he believed that God did create such beautiful things- butterflies, flowers, trees, green grass, donkeys, roosters, ducks, dogs, cats, rocks, the river, the sky, the wind, the sun; including the LIGHT.

All those who did not know God is like an Egg. Being surrounded by that ‘darkness’ and ‘gloomy black walls’ avoids us from seeing and hearing The Truth about Jesus. It is hard for us to accept The Truth if we are not yet re-born in the Spirit. To be re-born into another New Life is to accept Christ Jesus into our lives is. All we need to do is open our hearts to the Good News rather than opening our eyes because: Happy are those who believe yet do not see kan… Hehe. You know, unless we demolish that stupid black wall (Our sins and bad habits) that keeps us away from Him, we are not able to see Him coming to us in His radiant light!

*So Brothers and Sisters, to be re-born into a new Life like that chick felt after cracking open his shell, what must we do? Easy- DO THE SAME! Crack open our ‘walls’ that had kept us in darkness for years, and let His Light sip thru’ the cracks, and after we gain enough energy to move on, tear down the whole wall with His help, and let yourself be surrounded by His full LIGHT!! Every time u open the shell of the hard-boiled egg kan, remember to praise God for all those wonderful things around you, and pray that U will no longer be surrounded by dark walls that keeps you away from His love. Peace-Meow! Jesus loves you! =P
